The next week was all about returning home, spending a few days with family, and hitting the road again. Even so, we had several new experiences.

  • We slept in a meadow somewhere outside town and truly enjoyed a night without any cars.
  • We saw a live fire salamander! :D
Isn't it beautiful?
  • When we stopped for coffee at a pub, there were two guys around 75 playing pool and they were pretty competitive. I really didn't expect that, especially when one of them kept forgetting every other round that he'd already ordered a beer and wanted to order another one...
  • For the first time, we filled our water barrels at a gas station. The lady was very kind and gave us as much space as we needed. The taste isn't the best, but you don't look a gift horse in the mouth... or however that saying goes. :D
  • We now have an herb garden. It actually looks really nice in here.
Lemon balm and rosemary
  • We bought new seals for the back doors. We had a feeling that exhaust fumes were getting in a bit. We'll see what improves.
  • We successfully changed the oil and fixed the thermostat, so now the engine warms up properly and we smoke a little less.
  • We made it to Slovakia – you can tell by the road quality, where we sometimes feel like the van is going to shake apart, or by the more frequent appearance of trash in roadside ditches. But when you reach the mountains, all of this fades into the background and you just think to yourself that coming here was definitely worth it!

And where did we go this time?

  • The Rychlebské Mountains, a walk around the ruins of Kaltenštejn Castle. For those who love a bit of adrenaline on their bikes, we can recommend the Rychlebské trails. We only saw part of the routes, but it looked like a lot of fun ;)

  • The town of Javorník with Jánský Vrch Castle rising above it. At sunset it was really romantic.
Jánský Vrch Castle at sunset... romance at its finest!
  • The route to Žamberk region via Hanušovice and the Morava River valley.
  • And again through Brno to Slovakia, where we spent our first night at the Kráľová water reservoir.

  • We drove through the Štiavnické Hills and walked the Paradais geological trail (in Slovak – naučný chodník! :D), which also covers the history of mining around Banská Štiavnica.

And how did the laundry situation go this time? Well, we made it home, so I took advantage of mom's washing machine. But next time it'll be for real!

You can get used to things incredibly fast. It doesn't even feel strange anymore that our living space is 10 square meters. We don't even need more. And when we want to stretch out a bit more, we just open the doors and suddenly there's infinite space.
